Video Games: An escape from reality

"Video games foster the mindset that allows creativity to grow"  - Nolan Bushnell

What are Video games?

Video games are computer programs that generate electronically manipulating images on a display which involves interaction with an input device. Video games are interactive digital entertainment which can be played via computer, a game console (Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation) or mobile devices.

A brief history of video games

The history of video games began between the 1950s and 1960s when computer scientists started creating primitive games and simulations on minicomputers and mainframes like tic-tac-toe, William Higinbotham’s 1958 Tennis etc. One of the first such video games was Spacewar!, which was created by MIT students as a hobby in 1962.

Journey to video games

Videogames are something that have always been a substantial part of myself. From my early childhood, two things two things I've always been fond of. One is computer and other one is computer games. And both of them have their fair share of blame to take for turning me into an introvert. Anyways, aside from typical mobile games my journey to videogames has started with a game called Far Cry. I've played typical computer games before such as Road Rush & Virtua Cop which we might all be familiar with. But for the 8 year old me at that time Far Cry was mind blowing.

Far Cry

Far Cry is a first person shooter game. It was developed by Crytek and was published in 2004 by Ubisoft. It is the first game of Far Cry franchise. The storyline goes with a formal American special force operative, Jack Carver explores an island where discovers horrific genetic experiments being conducted on local wildlife and his part of the mission becomes to confronts the mad scientist behind this experiments.

Far Cry is one of my favorite game
and since it was the first game I've ever played, it holds a special place in my heart. Over the years I've played Farcy 2,3 and & 4.

Call of Duty

After Far Cry 1 at that time I started Call of duty franchise and undoubtedly that satisfied my fantasy to be in the military like any other kid.

Call of Duty is also a first person shooter game franchise published by Activision. Call of duty simulates the infantry and combine arms warfare of World War 2.

For Call of Duty I played from 1,2,3,4:Modern Warfare 1,2,3, World at war, Black Ops 1,2,3 and Ghosts.

Battlefield

Following Call of Duty, there were a similar yet spectacular game series called Battlefield.

Battlefield franchise holds a series of
first person shooter game published by Electronic Arts. The games I've played from Battlefield are Battlefield 2,Bad Company 1,2,Battlefield 3,4,and 1.

Halo

Halo is a military science fiction media franchise introduced with it's first launch Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001.It was developed by Bungie.

The game is about a genetically enhanced super-soldier Jon-117 AKA Master Chief of UNSC (United Nation Space Command and his battles against a genocidal alien race known as the Covenant following his crash-landing on Halo, an ancient mysterious ring-world.

Halo was the second game that I was so obsessed with. From Halo I played Halo: Combat Evolved,2,3,3: ODST & Reach.

Assassin's Creed: Greatest Of All Time

Assassin's Creed is my most favorite game and something I'm so obsessed about. and writing about it deserves a separate blog of itself.

Assassin's Creed is an open-world action-adventure, stealth game developed and published by Ubisoft.
The game primarily revolve around the rivalry and conflict between two secret societies, The order of Assassins, who represents freedom and the knights Templar, who represents Order. Various versions of these societies have existed
throughout history, with the Assassins

attempting to prevent the Templars from gaining control of Eden Pieces, artifacts that are capable of overriding free will.

From Assassin's Creed I've played Assassin's Creed 1,2,Brotherhood,Revelation, 3,4:Black flag, Unity, Rogue, Syndicate.

A few more words

Aside from all of the games mention above there are few more that I can not help but mention which are -

  • Matrix: The path of Neo
  • Metro franchise
  • Wolfenstein
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior
  • The Witcher

As for online one's I've enjoyed playing CS:GO, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, Destiny, Apex legend & Valorant. Although I enjoy singleplayer story games more than online games.

Honestly, There are plenty of games to mention but limited by words but one thing is certain that no matter how many new video games I play, I can not seem to get that old back that I used to get as a child, the excitement rushing through my brain.
