FC Barcelona: More than a club

 


For many years, people have wondered what exactly makes a football club great? Is it based off of success, legacy or a special connection that fans have with that club?

Especially in recent years, people from across the globe have developed a sort of connection with FC Barcelona. Barca have some of best players in the world, a strong legacy. To many people, Barca is extremely likable.




History of FC Barcelona

The club was formed in 1899 by businessman Joan Gamper who advertised for players in a local Barcelona sports magazine. in 1902 the club won their first trophy which was Copa Macaya(Catalan championship). In 1910, the club participated in their first of many European competitions. In 1928, Barcelona co-founded La Liga, the top tier in Spanish football, along with a string of others clubs. Till now in 2022, Barcelona has never relegated from La Liga.

*On 14 June 1925, in a spontaneous reaction against Primmo de Riveras dictatorship, the crowd in the stadium jeered the Royal March. As a reprisal, the ground was closed for six months and Gamper was forced to relinquish the presidency of the club. This coincided with the transition to professional football, and, in 1926, the directors of Barcelona publicly claimed, for the first time, to operate a professional football club. On 3 July 1927, the club held a second testimonial match for Paulino Alcantara, against the Spanish national team. To kick off the match, local journalist and pilot Josep Canudas dropped the ball onto the pitch from his airplane. In 1928, victory in the Spanish Cup was celebrated with a poem titled "Oda a Plakto", which was written by a member of the Generation of '27, Rafael Alberti, inspired by the heroic performance of the Barcelona goalkeeper, Franz Platko.Two years after the victory, on 30 July 1930, Gamper committed suicide after a period of depression brought on by personal and financial problems.*(copied from the same link below)



The present of Fc Barcelona

Now at present, Barcelona is one of the most successful and biggest clubs in the world enriched with history and trophies. The present president of the club is Joan Laporta. He is trying to fix the club which was a mess done by the previous president Josep Maria Bartomeu (2014-2020). For Bartomeu, the current president of Barca has to let go the best player of the club's history Lionel Messi.

Currently Barca has 5 Champions League, 26 La Liga, 3 FIFA Club World Club, 4 European Cup Winners' Cup, 5 European Super Cup, 31 Copa del Rey, 13 Spanish Super cup, 3 Copa Eva Duarte and much more.



The Home ground  and Training ground

The home ground of Barca is called "Camp Nou". This stadium is capable of  containing 90k+ people. The training ground is called "La Masia". This training ground is the breeding  place for many Best players in the world likes of Lionel Messi, Ineasta, Xavi, Carlos Puyol, Johan Cruyff and much more. So many great players(Now legends) had played for this great clun. Such as Maradona, Ronaldinho, David villa, Ronald Koeman etc.

The home of Tiki-Taka football

Barcelona is the most successive club when it comes to the playing style of tiki-taka. whenever the name tiki-taka comes, everyone reminds of Johan Cruyff, the philosophy changer of FC Barcelona. In 1988 Cruyff became the manager of FC Barcelona where he once played as a player. While at Barca, he founded and pioneered the development of La Masia, the club's now legendary academy. Based on his past experience, La Masia was tasked with installing Cruyff's philosophies in the club's youth players; players who would one day become the world's best exponents of 'tiki-taka'. In generally 'tiki-taka' means taking the ball and passing the ball in a short time. Sir Johan Cruyff is the sole reason behind this playing style. This playing style is so beautiful to watch . This is a reason Barcelona plays one of the most beautiful football. Every Barca fan including me like to watch this beautiful football.

Rival

The club has a long standing rivalry with Real Madrid and matches between two teams are referred to as El Classico. The match between these two teams are so great to watch. Its like a war for these two teams. Each of them plays like either you go home or you dont't. The players try to give their best against each other to win. Whe  these two team faces each other, the whole world watches the show.



The Messi Era

Lionel Andres Messi; The little magician is an Argentine international football player who played for FC Barcelona. At the age of 11 Messi came to Spain and joined Barcelona club to train. For his talent and hard work, in October 2004, Messi made his official debut for the first team against RCD Espanyol, becoming the third-youngest player ever to play for FC Barcelona. He scored his first goal in May 1, 2005. That time Messi was only 17 years old, youngest player ever to score in La Liga. He played beside many  great players like Ronaldinho, Xavi, Ineasta, Puyol and much more. In 2011, he set a record of scoring 91 goals in a calendar year which is yet to break by any player. With Messi, Barca has achieved some major trophies. Such as, 10 La Liga, 7 Copa del Rey and 4 UEFA Champions League . Beside trophies, Messi has set many records with Barcelona including record of 7 Ballon d'Or. The Messi era has to end because of corruption inside the club and he had to force leave the club in 2021. Later he joined PSG(Paris Saint Germain) club to continue his football career journey. Thus the magical era of FC Barcelona had to end. 



Conclusion

Barca is a great club with a great history and philosophy. I am a fan of  Barcelona. This Catalonian club gave me so much enjoyable moments to witness the greatest show on earth; Football. As well as I witnessed the greatest forward trio of MSN(Messi, Suarez, Neymar).
